![]() ![]() The later Almohads used a white and black checkerboard patterned flag. I believe that the Almoravid invaders into Iberia used a white banner with the Shahada in black lettering. White with the Shahada in black is used for the Umayyad Caliph instead of the historically accurate plain white. It is also used in place of a picture for Mohammed if you click back through the generations from any Sayyid. The white script on black is used for the Abbasid Caliph in the game instead of historically accurate plain black. Rarely, a black flag with the Shahada in white script was used or the reverse, or sometimes the Shadada on one of the other colors. The Umayyads and Shia rulers used white in opposition. This was because of the strict Muslim aniconism. Most early Islamic armies used single color banners, usually all black but also other colors such as all red, white, yellow, and green. ![]()
